Way back when (remember the ’80s, anyone?) as soon as a girl became engaged she would run to the store and start tearing through magazines, ripping out pictures of the dresses and flowers she loved and to hang on the wall or stuff into a binder. I remember a time when I would buy TWO copies of each magazine – One to keep on hand as a referral guide, and one to rip up and make mood boards with!
Today, we no longer run to the bookstore, we rush to our laptops, iPads, or anything else that will give us internet access. Brides search dresses, flowers, venues, and photographers. We look to our favorite celebrities for style cues, follow our favorite planners, watch the blogs of potential photographers – The list goes on and on! And up until recently there has been a whole lot of “Right click and save to…” happening with brides across the world! But where do you save these pictures and articles? How do you keep them organized? What if the files are too large to send to your mom / bridesmaids / wedding planner and more?
Enter Pinterest! According to the “About Me” tab, “Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. You can browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.”
In short, ladies, Pinterest is your new Best Friend in wedding planning!
Imagine the possibilities! You can have followers a la Facebook, share information on Twitter, and – the best part yet – if you install the Pin It! button onto your tool bar, you can literally pin, keep, and catalogue anything and everything you find on the internet for later! By pinning pictures and organizing your images, you can immediately keep track of everything that inspires you, explain exactly what you are wanting to your wedding planner, and even allow your friends and family to contribute to your vision!
I use Pinterest with my brides to get a better understanding of what they want their weddings to look and feel like while we explore their unique style. And I use it in my personal life to organize images that inspire me for my home, my wardrobe, and my life!
